Nationwide Pet:🐾Tips for a Pet-friendly Turkey Day!

Thanksgiving brings friends and family together to swap stories, share favorite recipes and reflect on what makes us grateful.
This Thanksgiving, make sure your pet stays safe by avoiding these common holiday table scraps that can turn a “get together” into “get to-the-veterinarian” fiasco.
Rich or fatty foods: Dark meat turkey, turkey skin, gravy, anything made with cream or butter, bacon, sausage, ham and drippings can lead to serious illness like pancreatitis.
Toxic foods: Avoid onions, garlic, shallots, grapes, raisins, chocolate, alcohol, xylitol (a common sugar substitute) or anything made with these ingredients—they’re toxic to pets!
Bones: Animal bones—whether from poultry, fish, pork or beef—can injure pets’ mouths, harm their teeth, lead to choking or end up causing intestinal damage if swallowed.
Protect your pet.
How pet insurance works
Nationwide pet insurance offers reimbursement on eligible veterinary bills for accidents, illnesses and more.1 Once your plan is in effect, here’s how it would work to cover an eligible visit to your veterinarian if your little turkey overindulged on Turkey Day.
You go to the veterinarian with your pet, because your pet has a tummy ache.
You pay the invoice of $560, which is the expected cost to treat acute gastroenteritis.2
You snap a photo of your paid invoice and submit the claim right from your phone.
Nationwide reimburses you for your eligible expenses.
Assuming you’ve selected our most popular 70% plan and have met your annual deductible, you'll get $392 back, along with the knowledge that your pet will be ok.
